General Info: Is it named after the mini-bike? Probably not, but Pukka is one of those small, often used apps some people swear by. One of the best ways to keep track of your bookmarks is the confusingly named web service Del.icio.us. If you want a way to quickly post to Del.icio.us, then Pukka is certainly an option. Pukka doesn’t stop there though, it can also post to Ma.gnolia and other services. Pukka integrates with RSS readers like Newsfire, NetNewsWire, and Vienna. Another example of integration is the bookmarklet usable in any Mac web browser. Just select the text to use as a description, click the bookmarklet, add tags, and click post. The Pukka window is then whisked out of your way (read as hidden in the Dock) and a Growl notification pops up. Posting is very fast and I never experienced a failed post.
The main problem with Pukka is the fact that it lives only in the Dock. I hate fighting apps to regain precious Dock space, and Pukka just feels like a menu bar app. Still, its a small thing for such a timesaving app. When you control click, or right click, on the Pukka icon in the Dock, a menu lists your bookmarks organized by tags. Irritating though is that the previously stated menu keeps items even after they’ve been deleted. Any serious Del.icio.us user should at least try out the trial version of Pukka, as it’s the simplest way to post to Del.icio.us, and similar services, on the Macintosh.
