Beatify VLC

Monday, May 7th, 2007

?Ǭ†VLC is a wondeful video player, but it doesn’t look quite Mac-like. An easy way to fix that is to download the free “VLC Icon Overhaul” from MacRabbit, the makers of CSSEdit. The easily installed icon set is available at: http://www.macrabbit.com/goodies/

Just remember to reapply it whenever VLC is updated.

CSSEdit 2.5 Released

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

Today, MacRabbit released CSSEdit 2.5. CSSEdit is a great app for creating and editing CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) for web design. In the latest version, MacRabbit has added:

-Tabs. Yes, this one may not come as a surprise anymore. However, I am sure you will be quite surprised once you try them out. Pictures simply don’t do them justice.

-X-ray Inspector. This must absolutely be the most popular feature request of all time. Lo and behold, here it is: the X-ray inspector shows you what styles apply to the selected element in X-ray

-Selector Builder. Selector what? This is a brand new innovation that should make life much, much easier for anyone starting out with CSS (or teaching it). Define your selectors in plain English, and it generates the necessary code for you.

-Various improvements all over the application: a navigation bar in the Preview, a font picker, selector CodeSense, a text shadow editor, brand new shiny wonderful HUD inspectors, etc. Major changes everywhere!

Snapshot

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

Rating: 5/5

General Info: Snapshot is a very powerful little app that allows you to imitate the power of a photo lab with your very own digital photos. With a very easy-to-use and user-friendly interface, Snapshot is a winner in my books.

It begins with a workflow, from top to bottom. The first step is to add photos, either by drag-and-drop from the Finder, or by its seamless integration with your iPhoto Library. Snapshot is able to quickly and easily browse your entire iPhoto Library, maintaining all of the structure of your albums and folders. Once you have your photos selected, you simply drag them into the timeline across the bottom of the window, and the editing process begins.

Within its three main modules, you can choose between border styles, add notes or the date to a photo, add speech bubbles, and perform basic crops and edits to the photos. While many of these are simple things, they are implemented in such a seamless way, that makes the entire experience of this app very fun and easy. Finally, it has a plethora of printing options, which help to you to choose precise print sizes, which printer to print from, and, my personal favourite, the ability to print borderless, which makes your photos all the more stunning. Summed up, I really love this app. From the website all the way to the printer, Stunt Software provides a seamless experience, and a very easy-to-use app that anyone, no matter how computer savvy can use and enjoy. I definitely recommend this app!

Wheres GoLive CS3?

Monday, April 16th, 2007

After watching the whole Adobe Creative Suite 3 keynote, I thought to my self, were did GoLive go?

I heard that Adobe was making GoLive version 9, but the fact that they launched CS3 without it, makes me think that it is dead. Almost 2 years ago, Adobe acquired Macromedia for $3.4 billion is stock.

This article suggests that Adobe is trying to get developers to switch to Dreamweaver CS3.

I have put a call into Adobe to find out about this issue, and will post an update as soon as possible.

UPDATE-April 18: Adobe has still not responded, so I have also sent them an email.
