The Delicious Giveaway

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Welcome to the new generation, where apps no longer have square ugly interfaces. These apps have beautiful and amazing effects. They are no longer confided to the square. As we see from disco, the powerful yet beautiful burning app, by madebysofa.com/, these effects, such as the smoke, no longer limit the functionality of an app. Some of these amazing apps include John Casasanta’s iClip, or Sophia Teutschler’s CoverSutra, Ollie Wagner’s Menuet, or Austin Sarner’s Disco.

And thus, ILikeOlives was born. Austin, John, Sophia and Ollie teaming up to make the ultimate delicious Generation app ever. In the last month, John and austin have been posting to the ILikeOlives blog.

From the ILikeOlives blog:

“And speaking of the whole “Delicious Generation” thing, we’ve taken Paul Kafasis’ narcissistic, pessimistic, manipulative, envy-driven rant and turned his negative “flashy but frivolous apps” meaning into a positive one. We’ve co-opted the phrase to relate to apps that strike a great balance between form and function. Form and function aren’t mutually exclusive. And this is what we’re about.”

Delicious Generation Logo

At various Delicious Generation events, including the WWDC party, they have been giving out ‘Delicious Generation’ Shirts, with that logo above on them. Of course, many of us, including me, where not lucky enough to be able to visit WWDC 2007, or the Delicious Generation party and pick up one of these shirts. So, I asked John if he could donate a Delicious Generation Shirt for iAppblog. After a few long conversations, I realized that a Delicious Generation shirt is pretty cool, but, for the iAppblog readers, I wanted something more. So I thought, and thought, and finally came up with the idea. I asked John if he could get the some of the ILikeOlives members to actually sign the shirt! He replied saying it was a good idea, and he would “see what he can do”. He said he would actually give us 3 shirts instead of just 1. So, expect an autographed delicious generation shirt but he said it’ll be a surprise about who will be signing it.

So, I thought, these aren’t any normal shirts, these are autographed are produced by the same people who have brought some of the most beautiful apps to your mac, how in the world could I give them away? After long hours of thinking, I have decided a way. You are just going to tell us your favorite Delicious Generation App, and why. I will read through all the entries, and find the best 3. Please keep your entries between 100 and 200 word. But, the Delicious Generation is not all about normal text, so I am also allowing you to submit a multimedia composition, up to 1 minute about your favorite app. If you decide to do this, please upload it to the internet, and link to it in the “Why?” area. If you are making a song, or any multimedia composition that does not describe why it is your favorite app, you can also tell us in the “Why?” area.

To submit it, please visit http://iappblog.com/giveaway/

Ultimate Mac App Giveaway Comes To An End

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

As planned, the Ultimate Mac App Giveaway, which was run, here, on iAppblog since May 14. We had tons of great Mac Application, which were generously donated by their developer. We also had some donations to iAppblog, and we thank those who donated. Remember though, you can always donate to iAppblog. Just on the ChipIn Widget in the Sidebar below the Mailing List signup. Your donations are really appreciated, and we will make sure to put them to good use.

And, now for the winners. To pick the winners, I drew the numbers with the True Random Number Service, provided by Random.org. Then I matched the numbers up with the number in the database.

So, I bet everyone wants to know who the winners are. I have not included their last names, because iAppblog does not have a privacy policy, and it has been requested not to share the last names. In fifth place, Jennn. In forth place, Michael. In third place, Adam. In second place, Niklas. And the iAppblog Ultimate Mac App Giveaway winner for 2007 is Matthew.

Thanks to everyone who participated, but, it is not over, we will continue to have giveaways for everyone on the mailing list, so signup, and hopefully, you will win. To sign up, just enter your name and email in the Mailing List form in the sidebar.

Once again, thanks to all the developers who donated software licenses and to everyone who registered, donated and won.

Note to winners: I have sent you all the licenses I have, please expect the developers to send you your licenses this week, and into next week.

Undercover Giveaway

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

Undercover is a great app/service that tracks and recovers stolen macs. I believe it is an essential service for all. Click Here, to read a great recovery story that recovered a mans macbook pro.

Taken From the Orbicule Website: “Undercover is capable of recovering any stolen Macintosh. It works by transmitting the internet location of the stolen Mac, and by sending screenshots, in order to easily locate the Mac. We will then work with local police and/or law enforcement to recover the stolen Mac. If things go wrong, Undercover switches to plan B and simulates a hardware failure, forcing the thief (or someone who bought the Mac) to return it to an authorized reseller. To alert the reseller, Undercover will start displaying full-screen messages and it will shout that the Mac has been stolen.”

To signup for the giveaway, you must register for fummo using this link (click here), then post a comment on this post saying you registered. You must include a valid email in the comment, and the name must match with a name that I see in the referals. For everyone that signs up, iappblog will get $5.

iClip Giveaway Winners

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

The winners of the iClip giveaway are “Rob”, “Brian Waldo” and “Ankur”. Here are their winning comments.

Rob: “I always copy and paste over something I need later and forget I copy + paste over it so I really like the clipboard history feature.”

Brian Waldo: “Although I already own a copy of iClip, I know someone who would just love a copy. I clip is a wonderful mixture of great graphics and superb functionality. I keep my hiding iClip on my computer at almost-all times, but when I am in need of some clipboard assistance, iClip jumps into assistance and I am rescued from coping and pasting and copying and pasting… I definitely suggest iClip 4 to anyone who needs a wonderful clipboard for their Macintosh.”

Ankur: “Just thought I’d write the third comment, so your licenses don’t go waste

iClip is a great app, but I think it’d be more useful to people who don’t use Quicksilver. iClip lite is cool too; a great use of OS X technologies. And to accomplish something like that on the Dashboard is not easy. Very, very nice.

I like the iClip UI, but the icon should be changed. Othre than that, a great app.”

If you are a winner, I have sent an email to the email address you provided when you posted your comments.
